The Braze For Impact Podcast #5: The Future of Food

On this week’s Braze for Impact, our weekly digest of all things tech industry, we sat down with Taylor Gibb and Omari Matthew to discuss something near and dear to our hearts: Food. Specifically, the future of food. Here are a few of the topics our intrepid podcasters touched on:

Food on demand

Eaters are looking for convenience more than ever. So we discussed the impact of food-on-demand apps and whether they’re good for the food industry. Are restaurants benefitting? And do they enhance or diminish the eating experience? It’s clear more and more restaurants are relying on these third parties to handle their delivery business and stay relevant in a tough industry. But are these restaurants losing some control over their product in the process?

Going meatless

Plant-based alternatives like Impossible Burgers and Beyond Meat are disrupting the meat industry—a disruption that might be long overdue. After all, going vegan is better for the environment and helps you steer clear of cruel factory farming practices. But are these meatless alternatives here to stay or are they just the surprisingly meat-like flavor of the month? We discuss our own experiences with these products and some of the barriers that stand in the way of mass adoption.

Whoppers, robots, and ads—oh my!

We round out our discussion by talking about Burger King’s latest campaign, which offers a one-cent burger to anyone who orders a Whopper through their app within 300 feet of a McDonald’s. While a cheap Whopper sounds nice, what does this mean for the future of food? Will we all be whisked around in our robot cars and will this robot car use biometric data to stop by McDonald’s whenever it seems like we’re craving a Big Mac? Is this good? Bad? Somewhere in between?

All that and we still find time to discuss Omari’s killer sense of style, PJ’s epic Seamless orders, and Taylor’s confusing craving for Quizno’s. Food lovers won’t want to miss it! Get the full episode right here.
