Appboy is pleased to announce a new feature that is sure to help effective marketers – message rate-limiting.
In most situations, marketers want their messages to reach users as soon as possible. But for apps with large user bases and particularly successful outreach, that can put them in a tricky spot – if all your users are receiving a marketing campaign at the same time, that raises the risk that a significant chunk of them will click through your messaging almost simultaneously, creating a sudden spike in traffic that can overwhelm servers for all but the most prepared companies.
To combat this, Appboy’s message rate-limiting allows you to easily set per minute limits on how many emails, in-app messages or push notifications are sent for each campaign. Marketers can limit their rate to 10k, 25k, 50k, 100k, 250k or 500k messages per minute, allowing them to adjust the rate-limiting level based on available server capacity, the expected popularity of each campaign and other factors.
Using message rate limiting can save marketers a lot of frustration and inconvenience. Prior to the launch of this feature, one of our clients underestimated the effectiveness of a promotional campaign that they sent via Appboy’s Mobile Marketing Automation platform, crashing their servers on one of the most important days of the year for online commerce. With message rate-limiting, painful incidents like this will become a thing of the past, allowing marketers to maximize their outreach without taking unnecessary risks.
