This year’s AfroTech in Houston marked both my third time attending and our third time participating as a sponsor. Each year I’ve been in attendance has felt more memorable than the last. What began as a small networking event has grown into one of the most influential conferences for Black tech professionals, uniting thousands to share ideas, ignite innovation, and foster community. AfroTech has become a cornerstone for advancing technology and amplifying the voices shaping its future, offering opportunities to connect, grow, explore new professional pathways, and inspire. For everyone at Braze who takes part, this event is a yearly highlight—not just for its energy, but for the meaningful opportunities it provides to engage with those shaping the future and striving to take their seat at the table.

I remember my first year attending AfroTech, when every interaction felt meaningful—over the years, those moments have only grown richer. This year, Braze had conversations with students ready to embark on their journeys, professionals looking to elevate their expertise, and founders exploring resources like our Tech for an Equitable Future product grant program to support their goals. These exchanges weren’t just inspirational; they laid the groundwork for partnerships, mentorships, and collaborative growth, reinforcing how pivotal connections like these can be for shaping the future of the industry.

AfroTech is a powerful reminder of the strength that comes from bringing together such talented, driven, and innovative Black professionals. Witnessing the achievements of others in this space reaffirms the importance of creating environments where everyone feels a sense of belonging. It’s about breaking down barriers and building bridges that create lasting opportunities for all.

From thought-provoking keynotes to immersive workshops, AfroTech creates an environment that celebrates innovation and underscores the transformative potential of technology. For Braze, it’s more than an annual sponsorship—it’s an opportunity to engage with an evolving community, connect with exceptional talent, and reflect on the meaningful ways we can contribute to its growth. Every year, we’re reminded of the incredible impact that emerges when diverse voices are empowered to innovate and shape the future.

As one of the Presidents of the Black@Braze and Somos Employee Resource Groups at Braze, I found AfroTech to be an inspiring space to connect with fellow ERG leaders. Through our conversations, I discovered their shared commitment to sustaining the momentum and insights from the conference throughout the year. Together, we explored ways to deepen collaboration, enhance internal support systems, and channel the event’s energy into meaningful actions for the communities we serve. Engaging with leaders from other organizations equally dedicated to fostering inclusivity highlighted the progress we can achieve by focusing on intersectionality and shared values.

I feel fortunate to work for Braze, a company that actively invests in opportunities like these, ensuring employees are supported in their growth while driving broader conversations about sustainability, inclusion, and innovation. The relationships built at AfroTech extend far beyond the event, fostering opportunities for collaboration, mentorship, and shared growth long after it concludes.

Reflecting on the past three years, I’m inspired by AfroTech’s remarkable growth and the ways it has influenced my approach to fostering communities in the Social Impact and ERG space. Each conversation at the booth-whether with a student, professional, or founder—has reignited my passion for the work I do and deepened my sense of purpose. These experiences shape not only my volunteer efforts within Braze but also my role as an ERG leader. If I could leave you with one piece of advice—something I shared with a student who felt inspired to become a doer after our interaction—it’s this: Being a doer is important. There will always be time to act and work toward your ambitions. But don’t lose sight of being a dreamer along the way.

I look forward to continuing to build meaningful relationships at future events while showcasing how Braze supports inclusion, fosters innovation, and prioritizes sustainability. Sharing these values with the broader tech community is an honor, and I’m excited to see what lies ahead. Until next time, AfroTech!
