Messaging Fundamentals

In Braze, you can compose, send, and manage your messages by using a campaign or a Canvas. For both these messaging methods, there are some shared messaging fundamentals for composition (setting up your message) and management (administratively handling your message).

Campaigns and Canvases share similar concepts and terms for message composition, but can vary in how the workflow is set up in the respective builder in the dashboard. These shared fundamentals can be understood in how you:

  • Determine when users should enter your message.
  • Target specific users by segment.
  • Assign conversion events.
  • Build the content of your message.

By understanding these shared terms and how they’re applicable, you can strategically build your messages regardless of which messaging method you choose.

Management

After creating your message, there are several basic and effective ways you can manage and organize your dashboard to prepare for launch and to handle after launch. This can include how you:

  • Set up an approval workflow to verify your message has the necessary settings and details to launch.
  • View your messages by their status to check which campaigns and Canvases are in the process of sending.
  • Duplicate your messages to build on your team’s successful strategies.
  • Archive your messages to keep the most relevant messages available on your dashboard.
