Update for Segment Extensions fixed date ranges
Starting November 1, 2026, Segment Extensions that use a fixed date range will only include users based on activity from the past two years (730 days). This page explains the change, who it affects, and what to do before then.
What’s changing
Current behavior
Braze retains Segment Extension event data for up to two years (730 days). How that window applies today depends on the time range type:
| Time range | Current behavior |
|---|---|
| Relative | The two-year window limits which users can match. |
| Fixed date range | Braze matches users in the audience even after the start of the range falls outside the two-year retention period. |
For example, if your fixed date range is October 6, 2024–November 30, 2024, and today is November 1, 2026, users who performed the selected event on October 6, 2024 can still match even though that date is older than two years.
Starting November 1, 2026
Braze will apply the two-year lookback window to Segment Extensions with a fixed date range. Any fixed-date-range extension will include only users who qualify based on data from the past two years—relative to today’s date. Users outside that window will be removed from the audience.
Using the example in Current behavior, after October 6, 2026, users who performed the selected event on October 6, 2024 would no longer qualify, even though that date is within the fixed range.

As time passes, additional fixed-date-range extensions may shrink when parts of their range fall outside the two-year window.
Who is affected
Your workspace may be affected if it contains at least one Segment Extension that meets the following criteria:
- Uses a fixed date range with a start date more than two years
- Is used in a campaign or Canvas with an upcoming send
After the change, some of these Segment Extensions may match fewer users, which can reduce the audience for upcoming campaign or Canvas sends.
What shows in the dashboard
On the Segment Extensions page, impacted extensions are denoted by a warning icon.
Workspaces with impacted Segment Extensions may also display a banner on the Segment Extensions page that recommends switching to a relative date range or choosing dates within the last two years.
How to prepare for the changes
Before November 1, 2026, review any Segment Extensions that use a fixed date range whose start date is more than two years ago—especially those used by campaigns or Canvases with upcoming sends. Confirm that the audience still matches your intent.
If you need a rolling window instead of fixed calendar dates, switch the time range to Relative (for example, the past 180 days).
